Cathy Mark’s artwork has a distinct woodland flavour; as natural images come instinctively to her. Her subject choice is a reflection of her surroundings. Cathy’s pastel and slate paintings explore the natural beauty evoked from a native canvas (slate) and her whimsical iron & rock sculptures capture the nature and charm of Canadian wildlife. Cathy’s metalwork has become a natural extension towards her mixed media work, sometimes directly influencing her slate and chalk images. Completely self taught, Cathy’s metalwork is progressing to larger and more complex creatures. By using a cutting tool called a plasma cutter, she carves out these playfully peaceful creatures from our surroundings. Each piece is hand drawn to make unique original sculptures, expressing both life and laughter.
