Gail West has been working with clay for 15 years. In pottery, Gail considers ‘slab rolling’ to be ‘like a clear canvas, with endless possibilities.’ The fragility of clay imposes wonderful challenges, but her successes make it all worthwhile. Her love of nature is often created by the use of natural imprints from a leaf, or reptile-skin effect from a lattice fabric. Gail favours earth tones, and she often layers glazes texturally; which produces the effect of movement on the surface.
"The beauty of nature – its colour, texture and form is all the inspiration I need!"
