Ellen Cowie is an artist who specializes in oil painting. She studied Fine Arts at Guelph University, and for the next five years she resided in Canada’s beautiful Provincial and National Parks. She has lived and traveled across Ontario, the Prairies and Canada’s North; this lifestyle led to intimate contact with nature, and the isolation allowed her to explore oil painting. Her career as an artist has become firmly established and recognized across Ontario. Ellen strives to portray life in her art, as she experiences it. She is passionate and unwavering in exploring and liberating a wide range of medias on her canvas with a deliberate freedom. Her landscape and wildlife paintings express images that she has been fortunate to encounter during her travels. Ellen treasures the varied gifts in her life, and her strength as an individual reflects her art. She paints people, places and animals from her heart, yet with an astute sense of reality, so that each painting is a loving representation of the world as seen through her eyes.
The Royal Canadian Mint has asked her to create 2 coin designs of Canadian landscapes. Designs have to be done for May 3, 2013 for the 2014 "O Canada" Collection. 3 artists have been asked and 1 will be chosen. We will hear around May 18th. Then it takes 4 months for approval from Minister of Finance...long process but very exciting!
