An animal's raw honesty is something that has always captivated me. If they like you -they show it. If they fear you - they show it. If they want to eat you... well you get the point. Animals are themselves all the time; they always live in the moment, and no matter what, they never give up. These qualities are something I have always loved and idolized about them.
My goal is to capture an animal's essence, strength, love, and beauty and to turn that into an art piece that will last for centuries and evoke a feeling each time you gaze upon it.
When it comes to my medium of choice, I use Pan Pastel, this is a soft pastel in a format that can be applied like paint using triangular sponges on pastel paper. In the final layer I strategically place pastel pencils to enhance the highlights and contrast, which allows for a very detailed, yet soft look to every piece.
