Siggy was born in Greiz, Germany in 1933. When the town in which he lived became part of East Germany, his family fled. After two years he decided to immigrate to Canada. He took a position as a woodcarver in the art furniture department of Ridpathxs, in Toronto. After a year he changed to a stone carver at a monument shop.

Siggy has taught woodcarving at Humber College, and he has exhibited in galleries all over the world. Siggy resides in Toronto but spends much of his time at his cottage in Muskoka.
